Tiger vs Grizzly Bear

Tiger vs Grizzly Bear: The esteemed lord of Asia challenges the big brown monster of North America.

The tiger is the world’s biggest and strongest of cats and is often called “the true king of the jungle”.

Able to take down prey up to five times their size, tigers are apex predators in every habitat they dwell, whether it’s the python-infested jungles of India or the wolf-inhabited forests of Russia.

Like most felines, tigers are completely solitary and when they come across their own kind, they will often challenge them – usually for mating rights.

In addition, a tiger may fight if another large predator, such as a crocodile or bear, poses a threat or competition for food or territory.

The tiger’s raw force and battle instincts make it an awesome force to be reckoned with.

Grizzly Bear

As the second-largest species of bear (the Polar Bear being the largest), the Grizzly Bear is a predatory tank.

A full grown grizzly is said to be as strong as five or six men combined and, at nearly 1,000 psi, its bite force is powerful enough to crush a bowling ball.

Grizzly bears usually fight by biting and by using their powerful bodies to push and overpower their opponents.

In addition, they will use their claws, which are 2-4 inches (5-10 cm) long, to maul prey until it dies.

As the furry Goliath of the wild, the Grizzly Bear is a force of nature on nightmarish levels.

In most cases, the Grizzly heavily outweighs the tiger and will no doubt be the victor in a fight between them. However, in a fight where the tiger outweighs the bear, the tiger would win.

Should the competitors be equally sized, though, the answer is a little less obvious.

Since the Grizzly is far more aggressive than the tiger and has greater stamina, should they be of equal size, the Grizzly will probably just chase the tiger off, if the fight is not one to the death.

On the other hand, in a fight to the death, the odds would be in the tiger’s favor. This is because the tiger is stronger and much more agile than the Grizzly and lethal blows can’t land on an opponent it has trouble hitting.

Siberian Tiger vs Grizzly Bear

A bigger curiosity may be what would happen should a large full grown Grizzly Bear of nearly 800 pounds (363 kg) come face to face with the legendary Siberian Tiger, weighing in at 660 pounds (300 kg).

While each of the sides has all of the same advantages and disadvantages as before, the Grizzly now outweighs the tiger by 130 pounds (59 kg). While a Grizzly would most likely win in a fight, as mentioned above, however if the fight is “to the death”, the lesser weight would be an additional challenge for the tiger.

Still, while the challenge will definitely make it more difficult for the tiger to win, it would still not impossible or even unlikely.

It can be argued in the tiger’s favor that Siberian Tigers have been known to kill full grown brown bears in the past.

Although none are quite as large as the North American Brown Bear (the Grizzly Bear), the tiger at one point will most likely succeed in reaching the bear’s throat (thanks to its superior agility and great size of its own) and end the battle the same way it does with the Grizzly’s smaller cousins.
